What is Automated Microneedling and how does it work? What do acne scarring, wrinkles, and stretch marks have in common? Although these skin issues occur for different reasons, collagen is the common thread. Collagen is the ingredient that plumps up the skin and makes it appear youthful. The amount of collagen in the skin can be lost through the aging process or damages to the skin such as acne infections, folliculitis, and sun damage. By pricking the skin, its response is to become inflamed and produce collagen as part of the healing process. Automated Micro-needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) damages the skin on a minor scale with the end result being increased collagen production — smoother, youthful skin. To enhance the Micro-needling process, serums are applied to the skin. The active ingredients in these skin care products can work below the surface of the skin to further enhance the treatment.
What are the benefits? The benefits of micro-needling are a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging, and overall fuller skin on the treated areas. The treatment also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, sun spots, age spots, surgery scars, large pore size, traumatic scars and stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance and glow to the skin.
What areas of the body can I treat? Collagen Induction Therapy can be used on all parts of the body; Face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
How is the procedure done? A sterile needle-tip containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to The Automated Micro-Needling Device. A thin layer of topical numbing gel is applied to your skin. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
What does it feel like? The feeling associated with The Automated Micro-Needling Device is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others (for example the forehead), the speed of the reciprocating needle tip reduces discomfort while the applied serums also makes the treatment more relaxing.
How long does the procedure take? The initial numbing process takes 20-30 minutes. The actual Collagen Induction Therapy will take 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
What is the micro needling downtime? Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the depth of needles used and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs. On average, clients are red up to 2 to 4 days and some clients will have slight flaking of the skin due to the baby skin emerging to replace the old dull skin. Many clients heal completely in as little as 24 hours with minimal skin redness. By always utilizing the recommended quality skincare products provided by Radiance Skin Spa, you can help to speed up the healing process.
When will I see the results? Clients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
How many treatments will I need? Some clients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most clients to receive a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. For the best results, especially for clients with deep wrinkles, many fine lines, and large pores, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 4-6 week intervals.
